BEAUMONT, Texas — After finishing in the middle of the pack nearly two weeks ago, the Lamar University women's golf team returns to action.
LU competes at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 16-17 at the Corpus Christi Country Club. Round one begins at 8:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cardinals finished 10th out of 15 teams at the Texas State Invitational with a three-round total of 921 (307-305-309).
Kamaya Moodliar tied for 15th after a hot start in the opening round, shooting two under par (70) with seven birdies.
She ended up making 11 birdies at the tournament.
Moodliar recorded her fourth round of par or better while also posting her second top 20 finish of the season.
SEASON BEST
Through 12 rounds,
Brooke Frerichs leads the Cardinals with a 75.6 stroke average.
Karolina Krasova is second with an average of 76.6 while Moodliar is third at 77.
Moodliar also tied the lowest round score of the season (69 at the Wolverine Invitational in September) matching Frerichs' score at the same tournament.
In addition, Moodliar becomes the second LU player this season to post a top 20 finish joining Frerichs who finished tied for 12th at the Terrier Intercollegiate in October.
ISLANDERS COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
LU is competing in Corpus Christi for the fourth straight season since 2023.
The Cardinals finished third out of 10 teams last spring as three players recorded a top 10 finish.
LU has fared well at the tournament posting three straight top five finishes.
In 2024 the program recorded its best finish, coming in second place with three players finishing in the top 10.
Corpus Christi Country Club was recognized as a top 50 course in Texas last year by the Dallas Morning News.
The course measures as a par 72 at 6,494 yards.
This spring the field consists of 10 teams which includes Houston Christian, A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Rio Grande Valley, Valparaiso and East Texas A&M.
Four junior colleges will also be joining the field — Weatherford College, New Mexico Junior College, McLennan Community College and Blinn College.
