BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University returns to competition this weekend by sending a split squad to the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse for the Howie Ryan Invitational (Feb. 13) on the campus of Houston, and Boston, Mass., for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Feb. 13-14).
In their last meet in Houston, the Cardinals competed in the Robert Platt Invitational. There were two school records broken as
John Sanderson became the first Cardinal to run the 60-meter hurdles in under eight seconds (7.86) and took second place.
Kyndall Drones broke her own school shot put record with a toss of 13.91m (45-7.75) and finished fourth place.
Cameron Chin recorded a pair of bronzes in the 200m dash (21.47) and teamed up with
Bryson Champagne,
Ethan Ellis, and
Tyler Minter in the men's 4x400 relay (3:19.23).
The Cardinals will be one of 15 teams competing in Houston along with the host school, Houston Christian, Huston-Tillotson, UL Lafayette, McNeese, Ouachita Baptist, Our Lady of the Lake, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Texarkana, Texas Southern and Trinity.
The Howie Ryan Invitational starts at 10 a.m with the field events, while the running events open at 1:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the David Hemery Valentine Invitational will begin at 8 a.m on both days.
