BEAUMONT, Texas — The second half of the season for the Lamar University women's golf team tees off Monday with the two-day Texas State Invitational at Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels.
Day 1 features 36 holes while Day 2 is one round of 18 holes. Both days have an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
FALL HIGHLIGHTS
It's been 13 weeks since the Cardinals wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule at The Judson in Hattiesburg, Miss.
LU finished tied for seventh out of 11 teams as
Karolina Krasova finished in the top 25 with a three-round total of 224 after shooting a team low-round score of 73 in the opening round.
Brooke Frerichs led the team with a 75.6 scoring average while newcomer
Kamaya Moodliar posted a team-high three rounds of par or better.
Both Moodliar and Frerichs tallied the lowest round score of the season (69) at the Wolverine Invitational in Saratoga Springs, Utah. Frerichs spotlighted the competition by making a hole-in-one on the fourth hole.
Moodliar also highlighted the fall by posting the best 54-hole score of 218 at the Wolverine Invitational.
Frerichs also had a top 15 finish after tying for 12th at the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, S.C.
SPRING SCHEDULE
After LU's trip to the hill country, the Cardinals are competing at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi (Feb. 16-17) followed by a trek out to Abilene for the West Texas Classic (March 2-3).
The Cardinals will then make their way closer to home competing at the Houston Christian Women's Intercollegiate in Sugar Land from March 9-10.
This spring's Lamar Cardinal Challenge takes place March 30-31 at the Beaumont Country Club.
The three-day Southland Conference tournament is being held at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos from April 13-15.
NEW ADDITION
LU welcomed in a new transfer ahead of the spring season.
Marta Romero Crespo, a sophomore from Division II Oklahoma Baptist, played in all 11 tournaments as a freshman.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Crespo played in over 27 rounds helping guide Oklahoma Baptist to a spot in the NCAA Central Region tournament for the first time since 2019.
TEXAS STATE INVITATIONAL
LU is competing at the Texas State Invitational for the ninth straight season since 2018. The first six competitions were held at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.
The event then shifted venues in 2024 when it moved to Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels and then in 2025 the tournament was held at Vaaler Creek in Blanco.
LU's best finish came in 2023 when it placed fifth overall. The Cardinals tied for sixth last spring, marking their fourth top 10 finish at the Texas State Invitational.
This year's competition features 15 programs in the field.
Texas State, Prairie View A&M, A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Dallas, Incarnate Word, Loyola Chicago, St. Mary's (Texas), West Texas A&M, Houston Christian, UT Rio Grande Valley, Creighton, Tarleton State, East Texas A&M and Stephen F. Austin make up 14 of the 15 teams.
Landa Park Golf Course measures at 6,168 yards and is a public, par 72 course that was opened in 1938.
