Lamar returns to Florida for West Bay Collegiate Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University returns to the Sunshine State for the West Bay Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast.

The two-day tournament will be held Oct. 5-6 at West Bay Club in Estero, Fla.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK:
  • The Cardinals tied for fourth place in a 14-team field at the Argent Financial Classic.
  • Nathan Woodham earned a share of the individual title, finishing at 10-under-par 206 to tie for first place.
  • He became the first Cardinal to win or share a tournament title since David Schneider Jerez tied for first at the Graeme McDowell Invitational in September 2023.
  • Freddie Surgey climbed six spots on the leaderboard during the final round to finish tied for 12th at 214 (73-71-70).
  • The Cardinals recorded their first top five finish at the Argent Financial Classic since placing third in 2016.
  • Lamar recorded 53 birdies during the tournament, the third-most in the field.
  • The Cardinals recorded their first top five finish of the fall season since placing fourth at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in September 2025.
 
HIGHLIGHTING THE SEASON:
  • Woodham leads the Cardinals with a 70.5 scoring average through nine rounds and a team-high six rounds of par or better.
  • Matthew Bramford ranks second on the team with a 72.0 scoring average and has recorded four rounds of par or better.
  • Woodham and Bramford have each posted a top 10 finish this season. Bramford tied for seventh at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic.
  • Woodham's 54-hole score of 206 at the Argent Financial Classic is the Cardinals' lowest score of the season while Bramford's 207 (67-71-69) ranks second.
  • As a team, the Cardinals carry a 73.2 scoring average and have recorded 17 rounds of par or better.
GETTING RECOGNIZED: Woodham earned Southland Conference Golfer of the Week honors on Oct. 1.

MAKING A COMEBACK: Competing for the first time since the Spring Indy in April 2025, Luc Gavagnin carded a 54-hole score of 235 at the Argent Financial Classic.

WEST BAY COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL PARTICIPANTS: Florida Atlantic, UTSA, UT Rio Grande Valley, Appalachian State, Troy, West Georgia, UL Monroe, Jacksonville University, Stetson, Lamar, Houston Christian, UCF, Florida Gulf Coast, Elon and Lipscomb.

COURSE INFO: West Bay Club is a par 72 course measuring 6,773 to 6,939 yards with eight different sets of tees.
