Luke Parker finished third in the men's 600-meter race as Lamar University opened the first day of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by New Mexico.
Parker won the second heat with a time of 1:18.12 seconds, which defeated UCLA's Tamaal Myers II. He was the fastest collegiate athlete in the event and only trailed second place by three hundredths of a second.
Hannah Roberts competed in the women's 600m and finished third in her 600m heat (1:36.44), which was good for ninth place.
Kyndall Drones recorded her fourth top-five finish in the women's weight throw with a throw of 16.90m (55-1.5) that put her in fifth place while Alex Williams landed in the top 10 after he finished ninth (17.08m/56-0.5).
The second day will commence at 10:00 a.m. Saturday with the field events while the track portion will start at 1:00 p.m.
