BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University men's golf is staying close to home this week, traveling to Westwood Golf Club in Houston for the two-day Bayou City Collegiate Classic Monday-Tuesday.

The Cardinals finished 10th out of 13 teams at last week's Sandestin Collegiate Classic in Miramar Beach, Fla.
David Schneider Jerez tied for sixth, his first top 10 finish of the season, after he shot a total score of 206 (70-67-69).
Schneider is leading the team with a 70.3 scoring average through six rounds of play.
Four of the six Cardinals that have seen action this fall have at least two rounds of par or better and have carded low round scores of 69 or lower.
Schneider has played five rounds of par or better, carding the lowest round score of the season — 67 at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic.
Nathan Woodham ranks second on the team with a 70.8 scoring average. He has four rounds of par or better.
BAYOU CITY COLLEGIATE CLASSIC
LU has competed at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic eight times since the 2013-2014 season.
The Cardinals recorded their best finish of third place in 2023.
Mans Berglund was the last individual champion in 2017 when he finished with a three-round score of nine under par (70-67-70—207).
Last season the Cardinals finished seventh overall.
This is the first time the Bayou City Collegiate Classic is being played at Westwood Golf Club since 2021.
Westwood Golf Club is a par 72, 7,184-yard private course that was founded in 1928. It is the second oldest private course in Houston.
Houston Christian, University of Houston, UT Rio Grande Valley, Rice, Texas Southern, University of Louisiana Monroe, Valparaiso, UL Lafayette, Prairie View A&M, Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word, LSU, UT Arlington and Utah Valley make up 14 of the 15 schools in competition.
First round action tees off at 8:30 a.m. while the second round begins at 1:15 p.m.
