RHINE-RUHR, Germany – Former Lamar University standout
Mariam Buenanueva Saleme scored 4,914 points and placed 20th in the heptathlon while representing her home country of Argentina at the FISU World University Games Thursday.
Buenanueva Saleme set a new personal best in the 800 meters as she crossed the line at 2:26.09 to finish third in her heat and 20th in the event. Her previous mark was 2:26.23, which she achieved at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Buenos Aires native had her best finish with a 17th-place mark in the high jump, eclipsing 1.65 meters (5-5.00). She also finished 19th in the long jump with 5.45m (17-11.00).
The 2025 track and field season saw Buenanueva Saleme claim 11 top-10 finishes, including an individual pentathon title at the SLC Indoor Championships and third in the outdoor heptathlon. Already a three-time All-SLC selection, she helped the Cardinal women to the 2023 SLC Outdoor title and second-place finish in this year's outdoor meet.
