Ellis, Knoop Open NCAA West Regionals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Lamar University men's track and field athletes Thomas Knoop and Ethan Ellis took part in the NCAA West Regionals hosted by Texas A&M Wednesday. Knoop competed in the men's javelin and finished 22nd, while Ellis ran 33rd in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

Knoop's first throw in the javelin went for 64.10m (210-4). After not scoring on his second attempt, the senior launched his third throw five feet further for a final mark of 65.67m (215-5). This season, in seven meets, Knoop placed in the top two five times, with three victories, including the McNeese Cowboy Relays, the Tom Tellez Invitational and the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. 

Running in the third heat, Ellis crossed the line at 51.66. In both indoor and outdoor seasons combined, Ellis recorded 10 top 10 finishes. This included being part of the gold medal distance medley relay team at the SLC Indoor Championships. He qualified for the NCAA Regionals after finishing fourth at the conference outdoor meet with a time of 51.35 seconds. 

LU's five female qualifiers will all compete Thursday. Cecile Bogliolo and Neelie Schiel will open things up at 2:30 PM in the women's javelin. Kayli Johnson is set to participate in the long jump (4:30 PM) and the 100-meter hurdles (6:00 PM). Annabel Hobday has her sights set on the 1,500-meters at 6:30 PM, while Nia Clatworthy will run in the 10,000 meters at 9:10 PM.
