| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - Eight Lamar University student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships, which will be held on the campus of Texas A&M beginning Wednesday, May 28th. Nia Clatworthy, Ethan Ellis and Elijah Jackson are set to return to the regionals Big Red while Cecile Bogliolo, Annabel Hobday, Kayli Johnson, Thomas Knoop and Neelie Schiel will be making their first appearances in the meet.

Unlike last season, when she participated in the 5,000-meters (17:19.50), Clatworthy enters the 2025 meet in the women's 10,000m. The senior from Porthcawl, Wales broke the SLC record (33:12.54) at the Bryan Clay Invitational, which ranks 19th nationally.

Ellis will once again compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the regionals after posting a time of 1:02.00 in last year's event. The junior from Missouri City recorded four top-five finishes this season, including second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.91) and third in the 400H (52.54) at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet. Although he finished fourth in the 400H in the conference outdoor meet, his time of 51.35 has him ranked 48th.

Jackson makes his second consecutive appearance in the high jump after clearing 1.99m (6-6.25) last season. In six meets during his senior campaign, the Austin native finished in the top three on three occasions. His gold-medal winning height of 2.13m (6-11.75) at the SLC Outdoor Championships places him 25th in the nation. He also took second at the J Fred Duckett (2.09m; 6-10.25) and third at the Tom Tellez Invitational (2.12m; 6-11.25).

Johnson is the only athlete to qualify for two events, as she will compete in both the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles. At the SLC Championships, the Zachary, La. native took home four medals including gold in the 100H (13.62), silver in the long jump (6.22m; 20-5), which was ranked 43rd in the country, and a pair of bronzes in the triple jump (12.53m; 41-1.5) and 4x100m (45.22). Her fastest 100H time of 13.52 at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster was 48th in the nation. She also claimed first in the long jump at the Texas Relays and broke the school's triple jump record (12.95m; 42-6) at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.

Hobday, a senior from Surrey, England, is expected to compete in the 1,500m. She placed in the top five on two separate occasions. Earning fourth place at the Texas Relays (4:26.64), she later broke the Texas A&M Alumni Muster meet record (4:19.70). Hobday reached the 1,500m finals at the SLC Championships where she finished (4:33.60).

Bogliolo (Nice, France), Knoop (Gorinchem, Netherlands) and Schiel (Chappell Hill, Texas) will all make their debuts in the javelin. Knoop and Schiel each had five finishes in the top five throughout the season and claimed a conference gold medal. Knoop, a three-time winner in the event this season, recorded the nation's 15th-best mark (70.15m; 230-2) at the McNeese Cowboy Relays. Schiel, who won two javelin events, broke the school record of 154 feet (46.95m) at the conference meet, which had her ranked 43rd. Bogliolo recorded three second-place finishes, including at the SLC Championships (46.30m; 151-11).

The NCAA West Regionals will run from Wednesday, May 28th to Saturday, May 31st. Knoop (2:30 PM) and Ellis (7:25 PM) will lead off Wednesday, while Bogliolo and Schiel (2:30 PM), Johnson (4:30 PM; 6:00 PM), Hobday (6:30 PM) and Clatworthy (9:10 PM) have their events Thursday. Jackson is scheduled to start his event Friday at 3:30 PM. Should any of these athletes make the top 12 in their events, they will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
