HOUSTON, Texas - Lamar's javelin throwers highlighted the second day of the Tom Tellez Invitational with four medalists, including firsts from
Thomas Knoop,
Neelie Schiel,
Kaleb Robinson, and Mariam Buenanueva-Saleme. While the meet would be cut short due to the weather, it didn't stop the Cardinals from producing 18 top-10s in the two-day event.
In the men's javelin, Knoop launched his javelin 67.79 meters (222'05"), which was nearly eight feet further than the second-place opponent. Not once did he trail in his six throws as he continued to increase the distance before the final tally on his fifth attempt.
In the women's javelin, the Cardinals swept the medals as Schiel would earn her second first-place finish of the season with a mark of 43.79m (143.'08").
Cecile Bogliolo (40.29m-132'02") was eleven feet behind in second while
Madison Langlinais claimed third at 38.80m (127'03").
Mariam Buenanueva Saleme was fifth after her launch of 34.66m (113'08").
Robinson won his first long jump event of the season with a personal best 7.47m (24' 6.25"). He placed ahead of senior Solomon Washington of the University of Texas. Buenanueva-Saleme won first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m (5'5.75"). She also placed fifth in the javelin throw at 34.66m (113'8").Â
After reaching the finals of the 100H Friday,
Kayli Johnson finished fourth at 13.73. She would later join the women's 4x100m relay team along with
Ahmasia Brown,
Kayla Smith, and
Chantell Bowman. Together, the four would cross the line in second place at 45.76.
The Cardinals return to action this week as they head to College Station for the 44 Farms Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. The two-day meet will commence on Friday.
