HOUSTON, Texas -
Kayli Johnson won first place and broke the school's women's triple jump mark as Lamar University competed in the J. Fred Duckett Invitational hosted by Rice. The Cardinals won three events and were in the top three 15 times.
Johnson earned three top-three finishes on the day. Beginning in the triple jump, her third attempt landed her at 12.95 meters (42-5.75), which passed her previous mark of 12.12m (39-9.25) and the school record mark of 12.94m (42-5.5) held by
Crisstin Riley. Later, she added two second-place finishes in the women's 100H (13.96) and the 4x100m relay (45.27) along with
Ahmasia Brown,
Kayla Smith, and
Chantell Bowman. Smith (1:02.77) and Brown (24.55) would also place third in the 400H and 200m, respectively.
LU's other two first-place finishers were
Adrian Hahn Vadstein and
Blake Richards. Hahn Vadstein took home the men's 1,500m with a personal best of 3:57.81. Richards not only won the men's 400H at 55.23, but also placed third in the afternoon 110H with a time of 15.42.
Other athletes who placed in the top three twice included
Ethan Ellis and
Kenson Tate. Ellis crossed the line at 52.54 to earn third in the 400H while taking second in the evening session of the 110H (14.91). Tate completed in 200m event in second with a time of 21.13 and also joined
Jonah Lane,
Cameron Chin, and
Patrick Wolf to collect third in the men's 4x100m relay.
The javelin event added three more medalists. While
Thomas Knoop (68.00m; 223-1) placed second in the men's circuit,
Neelie Schiel (44.71m; 146-8) and
Cecile Bogliolo (44.33m; 145-5) took second and third, respectively in the women's circuit.
The Cardinals next head out to College Station for the Texas A&M Alumni Muster Friday. This will be the final regular season meet before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
