BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's outdoor season continues as it will end the month of April at the J. Fred Duckett Invitational hosted by Rice. This will be a one-day event and will take place Saturday at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field. In addition, the Cardinals will get their first opportunity to compete at the site of the Southland Conference (SLC) Outdoor Championships.

Two weeks ago, the Cardinals competed in the 44 Farms Invitational and posted two top-five finishes.
Kayli Johnson finished fifth in the women's long jump with 6.02m (19-9). The women's 4x400m team of
Kayla Smith,
Chantell Bowman,
Bria DeGray and
Hannah Roberts crossed the line in fifth with a time of 3:49.61.
Last weekend, the distance runners went out to California to compete in both the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach State Beach Invitational.
Nia Clatworthy set a personal, school, and Southland Conference record of 33:12.54 in the women's 10,000m. This performance would earn her a second career SLC Outdoor Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor. In the Beach Invitational,
Lloyd Sheppard-Brown took first place in his men's 1,500m debut with a time of 3:52.83.

The Cardinals will be among 22 programs competing this weekend including Rice, Blinn College, Dallas Baptist, East Texas A&M, Emporia State, Hill College, Houston, Houston Christian, UIW, Jacksonville College, McNeese, Nicholls, Northwestern State, Our Lady of the Lake, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M, TAMU-Kingsville, Texas Southern, UT Rio Grande Valley, UT Tyler and Victoria College.
The meet will start at 10:00 a.m. with the field events. The running events will commence at 1:30 PM.
