FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Lamar University seniors
Ethan Ellis and
Davis Wenthe both advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles to open the NCAA West Regionals hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field.
Ellis and Wenthe needed to finish in the top 24 to advance to the quarterfinals. Ellis ran in the fourth heat and placed third at 50.77, which was good for 18th overall. Wenthe crossed the line second in the third heat at 50.97, which got him 22nd. The two will have their quarterfinal heats Friday at 7:25 p.m and will need to finish in the top 12 to advance to the national championships.
Two-time Southland Conference hammer throw champion
Anthony Oliver got to compete in his first NCAA Regional meet and set a mark of 62.60m (205-4) to place 21st overall. This concludes a junior season that saw him earn 12 top-10 finishes and break the school's hammer throw record of 63.70m (209-0). He earned the men's SLC Field Athlete of the Week award after becoming the first Cardinal to throw for 200 feet (61.54m/201-11) at the Texas Relays.
Kenson Tate's remarkable Big Red career came to an end as he finished 22nd in the men's long jump with 7.44m (24-5). This season, Tate collected his seventh career medal by taking second in the long jump (7.71m/25-3.5). He earned four SLC Individual titles during career, was a 2024 All-American, holds the school's indoor long jump record (8.02m/26-3.75) and qualified for three NCAA National Championship meets and the 2024 U.S Olympic Trials.
Next up for the Cardinals is
Neelie Schiel, who will be making her second appearance in the regionals Thursday in the javelin. The competition will start at 2 p.m.
