Clatworthy's School & Conference Record Earns Southland Weekly Honor

BEAUMONT, Texas - Nia Clatworthy's record-breaking performance in the women's 10,000-meter event at the Bryan Clay Invitational has garnered Lamar University's first Southland Conference Track Athlete of the Week honor of the 2025 outdoor season announced league officials Wednesday afternoon. This is Clatworthy's second career weekly track and field honor.
 
Clatworthy's time of 33:12.54, which placed her seventh overall, broke both the school and conference records. It took a final lap time of 1:15.93 to best her previous mark (37:41.59) by four minutes. The school record before Clatworthy had been held for 43 years by Midde Hamrin (33:37.48) at the AIAW National Track and Field Championships in 1981. The previous conference holder was Rabea Schoneborn of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi which was set in 2018.
 
Clatworthy and the Cardinals make a return trip to Rice Saturday, where they will compete in the J. Fred Duckett Invitational.
