SAN MARCOS, Texas — On the final two holes, the Lamar University Cardinals made five birdies to surge up to second place at the end of the opening round of the Southland Conference tournament Monday afternoon at Kissing Tree Golf Club.
LU shot 12-over-par (300) as a team to be within five shots of first place Augusta. The Cardinals hold a three-shot lead over third place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Lucy Bedford finished at two-over-par (74) after she made three birdies and 10 pars to finish tied fifth place.
Bedford shot even-par on the front nine with two birdies and five pars.
Brooke Frerichs also carded a score of 74 as she had a bogey-free front nine shooting one-under with one birdie and eight pars.
She had one more birdie on the 17th hole. Frerichs is also tied for fifth place.
The Cardinals made seven birdies on the back nine.
Amanda Davidsson,
Karolina Krasova and
Sara Hagglund all tallied a birdie on the 18th hole.
Krasova finished the round with back-to-back birdies, also making one on the 17th hole.
Davidsson had two birdies on the back nine as she also made one on the 15th hole.
LU finished with 11 birdies.
