BEAUMONT, Texas — The Lamar University women's golf team is competing at the three-day Southland Conference tournament at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos April 14-16, Monday-Wednesday.

Kissing Tree, which opened its doors in 2018, is a semi-private par-72 course that plays from 4,955 to 6,522 yards.

First and second round tee times begin at 1 p.m. while the third-round tee times start at 7:40 a.m.

Augusta University, Houston Christian, UTRGV, East Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word make up seven of the eight teams in competition.

SLC TOURNAMENT

In 2024, the Cardinals finished sixth at the conference tournament in New Braunfels.

Augusta won the title for the third straight time last spring by finishing with a 67-shot lead over East Texas A&M.

LU won four straight conference titles from 2013-2016. Its last top four finish as a team came in 2019 with a fourth-place finish.

LU holds a conference-best seven team championships and four individual titles since 2002.

The Cards were led by individual medalist Wenny Chang in 2016 who shot the scores of 72-70-72 to finish first. Chang was a two-time SLC Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016.

Chang became the fourth Cardinal to win an individual title since Stine Pederson captured first after winning in a sudden death playoff in 2011.

The Cards won back-to-back individual titles in 2005 (Hillary Zeigler) and 2006 (Theresa Nilsson).

Since 2002, LU has registered 15 top four finishes as a team.

Beaumont has been the host of the conference tournament twice, the last time being in 2008.

LAST TIME OUT

LU had a challenging outing at the Veritex Bank Collegiate in Dallas this past week, which had four teams in the field that are ranked in the top 35.

Lucy Bedford shot the lowest score of the final round (75) for LU while Brooke Frerichs carded the lowest score of the opening round (77).

Karolina Krasova shot a 78, the lowest score of the second round among the team.
