LU men's golf makes 20 birdies on Day 1 of Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz — As the inclement weather pushed back tee times by two hours, the second-round play at the Desert Mountain Collegiate was suspended due to darkness at Desert Mountain Golf Course on Saturday evening.

Play is scheduled to resume at 7:30 a.m. MST Sunday, March 9 with round three to follow.

Lamar University is currently in 15th place after shooting a first-round score of 302 to have a total score of 474.

The Cardinals have made 20 birdies and three eagles. Two of the eagles were made during round two.

Nathan Woodham is at one-under-par after shooting a first-round score of 70. Woodham had back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes.

He also had an eagle on the 14th hole. He currently has four birdies and 18 made pars to sit tied for 18th.

David Schneider Jerez recorded four birdies in round one to card a 75.

Filip Widepalm and Fermin Martinez have highlighted the second round by making eagles on the 16th and 14th holes, respectively.

The 27th-ranked program in the nation, Mississippi State, is in the lead by 15 shots after finishing round one at 13-under-par.

No. 10 Utah is in second place with a collective score of 438.

Mississippi State's Garrett Endicott and Grand Canyon's Matthew Diehl are tied for the lead at nine-under-par, holding a two-shot lead over Eastern Michigan's Daniel Robles Delval in third.

The nation's 10th best golfer, Sergio Jimenez of Utah, is tied for 21st at even-par.
