HUMBLE, Texas — After a solid first round, the Lamar University men's golf team is currently tied for 10th after Day 1 of the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston on Monday.
The Cards finished the first round in ninth place after shooting two-over-par (290).
LU is in a two-way tie for the 10th spot with the University of Louisiana Monroe with a total score of 591, two shots behind ninth place Penn.
The Cardinals had 31 birdies made for the day, the fifth most. LU had 18 made birdies in round one.
Nathan Woodham shot one-under-par (71) with six made birdies in the first round. He had back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes as well as on the eighth and ninth holes.
Woodham is tied for 29th with a total score of 146.
Matthew Bramford tallied back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes in the first round.
Fermin Martinez (79-71) and Bramford (74-76) are tied for 54th.
LU made 13 birdies in the second round of play.
Rory Bennet had four birdies.
Martinez short one-under-par (71) in the second round with three birdies and 13 pars.
The University of Houston's Chi Chun Chen (69-66) is in first place with a total score of 135, holding a three-shot lead over teammate Jacob Borow.
Houston is in first place on the team leaderboard with a total score of 555 (276-279), a 10-shot lead over Troy.
UNLV, the 16th-best program in the nation, is fifth with a collective score of 575 (286-289).
