Cardinals Host Defending Southland Champion Islanders Thursday

BEAUMONT, Texas – Returning home to the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center Thursday following a tough road trip, Lamar University (14-6, 9-2 SLC) looks to put a stop to a small two-game skid as it hosts defending Southland Conference tournament champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-11, 3-8 SLC). This contest is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Cardinals fell 72-66 to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches Saturday. LU was able to rally from 58-45 down to within three (69-66) before the Ladyjacks iced the win with free throws. This marks the first time LU lost consecutive conference games since 2023.
 
Sabria Dean's Heroic Effort
Sabria Dean posted a season-high 29 points to lead LU. Hitting on 11-of-19 from the field, Dean was two points shy of her career-high (31), which she achieved against Howard Payne as a sophomore. She continues leading LU in scoring with 14.4 points per game, which puts her sixth in the SLC.
 
SLC Standings Update
The Cardinals remain in second place in the conference standings. While Southeastern Louisiana occupies first place at 12-0, there's a three-way tie for third between SFA, Nicholls, and UIW, who are all 8-4 in the conference.

LUCY, I'M HOME
The Cardinals still have the best home record in the SLC at 10-0 and have won all their games at Neches Arena by a margin of 25.5 points. LU also has a winning streak of 16 home games in a row with the last loss coming against East Texas A&M ,ast season.
 
All-Time vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
LU holds a 23-13 all-time record against the Islanders. The last time the two teams met, Corpus Christi ended LU's 14-game winning streak in the SLC tournament championship game, 68-61. Dean (19) and Akasha Davis (17) combined for 36 points for the Cardinals.
 
About the Islanders
The Islanders find themselves in a tie for eighth, and 6.0 games back of Lamar, after falling to UT Rio Grande Valley, 56-37. Leading Corpus Christi in scoring is the duo of Paige Allen (10.7 ppg) and Mireia Aguado (10.9 ppg), who were the top scorers for the Islanders with 22 and 11 points, respectively, in last season's conference title game. The Islanders have the second-best defense in the conference allowing 56.2 ppg.
