Cardinals string together 17 birdies on Day 2 of Vaqueros Invitational

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — Filip Widepalm made four birdies to card a score of one-under-par (71) to lead the Lamar University men's golf team on Day 2 of the Vaqueros Invitational on Monday afternoon at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club.
 
Widepalm had back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.
 
The Cardinals made 17 birdies after having seven on the first day of competition. Eleven of Lamar's second-round birdies were made on the front nine.
 
Nathan Woodham and Matthew Bramford combined to make eight birdies. Woodham tallied back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes.

Woodham is tied for 19th overall after shooting a second-round score of 73 to give him a two-day total of 147.
 
David Schneider Jerez also made two straight birdies on the fourth and fifth holes.
 
Lamar University rose up one spot to 12th place, two shots ahead of tournament host UTRGV.
 
Nationally ranked SMU, which checks in at No. 16 in the country, is now tied for first place at three-under-par after UTEP climbed the leaderboard carding a team score of 13-under-par (275) on Day 2.
 
SMU's Zachary Kingsland, the 48th-best player in the country, sits atop the individual leaderboard after shooting four-under-par (68) to have a two-day total of 138 (-6).
 
Kingsland has a one shot lead over University of Louisiana-Monroe's Louis Anceaux (-5 / 68-71).
