Carolyn Has A New Friend, But Not For Long
Akasha Davis became the first Cardinal to score 1,500 points and grab 1,000 rebounds. She's also the second LU player in the 1,000-1,000 club, joining Cardinals Hall of Honor member Carolyn Ford, who from 1978-1982, scored 1,056 points and grabbed 1,052 rebounds - the all-time mark as of Wednesday. Davis (1,008) will need 45 rebounds to eclipse the mark.
Approaching Uirannah Territory
With 1,718 career points, Sabria Dean needs 12 points to eclipse Uirannah Jackson for second all-time in program history. She remains third in the conference in scoring averaging just under 15 ppg. The all-time scoring leader for LU is Kalis Loyd (1,967).
Remember the Alamo? No, Remember NJ Weems
LU's last trip to San Antonio was memorable for Weems. The Minneapolis, Minn., native scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-12 shooting at the McDermott Center. She started the game by hitting her first 10 shots, including a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range as she led Big Red to a 72-68 win.
Last Time vs. UIW
Lamar defeated UIW 69-47 at the Montagne Center in the last meeting between the two teams. The trio of Sabria Dean (18), Jacei Denley (14), and Akasha Davis (13) combined for 45 points. This win means LU is 17-2 all-time and has won seven straight against the league's other Cardinals.
The Other Cardinals
UIW, currently fourth in the conference, is coming off a 63-55 overtime win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Mya Bell scored 18 points while Raimi McCrary netted 15. This contest will be a battle of two of the Southland's top five best defenses in conference games as UIW is fourth by allowing 57.9 ppg while LU (2nd) concedes 54.7 per game.
