Alex Williams III broke his own school record in the weight throw as Lamar University competed in the University of Houston's Howie Ryan Invitational Friday at the Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Cardinals won three events and claimed 10 top-three finishes in the penultimate regular season indoor meet.

Williams first broke the school record with his second throw of 17.90 meters (58-8.75). After two more attempts that improved the mark, his final toss landed at 18.80m (61-8.25) to give him second place in the event. Before Friday, Williams' previous mark was 17.21m (56-5.75), which he achieved at last year's Southland Conference Indoor Championship meet.

Kayli Johnson had another stellar weekend where she medaled in multiple events. For the second meet in a row, she earned first in the triple jump, posting a mark of 12.46m (40'10.50). The junior from Zachary, La., also claimed second in both the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 8.42, and the long jump, where she landed at 6.03m (19'9.50).
Ashton Rainey won the women's 3,000m race by breaking the 10-minute mark with a personal best time of 9:48.09 to beat second place by 10 seconds.

LU's two women's 4x400m relay teams took home first and third place with the "A" team of
Kayla Smith,
Sydne Porter,
Adebola Odunlami, and
Erial Fontenot (3:53.48) winning by four seconds over the "B" team of
Ahmasia Brown,
Chantell Bowman,
Bria DeGray, and
Mikalette Thompson (3:57.92). Smith would add third place in the women's 400m as she clocked in at 56.88.

Kenson Tate finished second in the long jump for the third time this season as he recorded a distance of 7.66m (25-1.75) to place in front of three athletes from the host school.
Elijah Jackson set a new personal best in the high jump by reaching the seven-foot plateau to earn third with a mark of 2.16m (7-1.00).

The Cardinals will rest up and get set to compete in the SLC Indoor Championships, which will take place in Birmingham, Ala. The championship meet will be a two-day event that will start on March 2nd.
