LU women's golf competes in final competition of fall season

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University women's golf tees off for the final time this fall as it competes at The Judson, a two-day tournament at Hattiesburg Country Club in Mississippi Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 27-28.

LAST TIME OUT

The Cardinals were in competition last week at the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, S.C.

LU finished seventh overall out of 14 teams.

Brooke Frerichs tied for 12th after posting a total score of 227 (76-74-77) while Aaniyah Bhola placed inside the top 25 after shooting a team best low round score of 71 during the second round.

FALL HIGHLIGHTS

Frerichs has led the team through nine rounds of play with a 75.4 scoring average. She posted the best finish by a Cardinal so far — 12th place at Terrier Intercollegiate.

Last fall, Frerichs only competed at one tournament, posting a scoring average of 77.5.

Frerichs has compiled the lowest scoring average of the fall since Karolina Krasova tallied an average of 75.2 in 2023.

Kamaya Moodliar broke onto the scene posting three rounds of par or better while also posting a top 20 finish (20th at the Wolverine Invitational).

Frerichs and Moodliar have both posted the lowest round score of the season (69 at the Wolverine Invitational).

At the Wolverine Invitational, Frerichs had a hole-in-one on the fourth hole. Both Moodliar and Frerichs also recorded a new career low.

Moodliar has also recorded the best 54-hole score of the fall, compiling a final tally of 218 at the Wolverine Invitational.

Bhola tallied a new career low round twice after posting the score of 232 at the Lady Clerico and Terrier Intercollegiate.

THE JUDSON

This the second straight season the Cardinals are competing at The Judson.

Last fall, LU finished eighth out of 10 teams.

This year, the tournament field consists of 11 teams.

The host Southern Miss joins Tulane, West Georgia, Samford, Alabama State, North Alabama, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Mississippi College and Belmont University as 10 of the 11 teams in the field.

The tournament is being played at Hattiesburg Country Club, a par 72, 6,902-yard private course. First round action tees off at 8 a.m.

Hattiesburg Country Club hosted the PGA Tour's Magnolia Classic from 1968-1985. Winners of the Magnolia Classic include Craig Stadler and the late great Payne Stewart.
