Men’s Golf Sitting in Fifth at Bayou City Collegiate

HOUSTON, Texas -The Lamar University men's golf team began its time at Rice University's Bayou City Collegiate Monday afternoon with two solid rounds. Shooting 577 (290-287) for the day, the Cardinals currently sit in fifth place out of 11 teams and are ahead of Southland Conference schools UT Rio Grande Valley and Houston Christian.

David Schneider Jerez birdied nine times in 36 holes, which led to scores of 71 and 68 for 139 and a tie for 10th. Matthew Bramford recorded two eagles for the day, which helped him score 143 (72-71), putting him in tied for 28th. Fermin Martinez posted two rounds of 74 to sit tied for 52nd with 148, while Nathan Woodham (T65th; 151) went from 77 in the first to 74 in the second round. Rory Bennet started his tournament shooting a first-round 73, and ended the day tied for 69th overall with 152 after 79 in the second. In his first two rounds of the season, Luc Gavagnin (T77th) put together rounds of 78 and 80 for 158 as an individual competitor.

Abilene Christian and Sam Houston are tied for the team lead with 551 each while Rice trails by three. Individually, Rice's Luka Boandl and LSU's individual competitor Noah Mcwilliams sit atop the leaderboard with 133.

The Cardinals will conclude their tournament with an 8:30 a.m. tee-off. They will be paired up with UL-Monroe and HCU.
