Woodham and Schneider Jerez Lead LU's Final Round Climb

CHOUDRANT, La. - Led by Nathan Woodham and David Schneider Jerez, the Lamar University men's golf team ended its appearance at the Argent Financial Classic by gaining three spots to finish 14th out of the 18 teams. The Cardinals' final total was 890 (292-304-294), which was one stroke behind Jacksonville State and two ahead of UL Monroe.

Woodham had the biggest improvement of the round for LU as he jumped from 36th to a tie for 20th with an even-par 72 that featured three birdies on the back nine.  Schneider Jerez leapfrogged 13 spots from 60th to 47th with a one-over 73, which included three birdies on the first nine holes. In a tie for 57th place are Rory Bennet (73-76-76) and Matthew Bramford (74-76-75), who both finished shooting 225. Following a pair of 78's from the previous two days, Fermin Martinez tallied 74 to conclude his tournament 83rd with 230.

Troy (857) would rally back to knock off the University of Houston by three to win the team championship. Rice's Lukas Boandl (206) used a 68 in the final round to overtake Troy's Nick Fowkles by two to claim the individual championship.

LU will resume its season on Sept. 22nd at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. The tournament will take place at Limestone Springs in Oneonta, Ala.
