KAPOLEI, Hawaii - The Lamar University men's golf team opened its final fall tournament by shooting 295 with the top three golfers separated by a stroke each. LU is currently locked in a three-way tie for 10th along with Army and British Columbia (ranked #8 in the NAIA level).
Through the first 18 holes, Texas State is on top of both the team and individual leaderboard. The Bobcats shot 282 for the round, which puts them two ahead of Utah Valley while Sakke Sitala's first round of 66 has him above Dane Huddleston (UVU) and Ryan Abaun (San Diego), who each shot 67.
David Schneider Jerez was one of eight golfers to shoot an even-par 72 in the first round, putting him tied for 24th.
Nathan Woodham is just a stroke back of his teamate after firing an opening-round 73 to end the day tied for 32nd.
Rory Bennet is tied for 42nd after carding a 74.
Fermin Martinez concluded his first round in a tie for 61st with 76.
Matthew Bramford is currently 85th after carding an 82. Competing as an individual,
Luc Gavagnin scored a 77 to round out the top 65.
Day two of the tournament will commence Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. LU will be partnered with Army and BC.
