Men's Golf Closes Bayou City Collegiate in Seventh

HOUSTON, Texas - The Lamar University men's golf team was unable to capitalize on its opportunity to climb up the leaderboard in the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate (hosted by Rice) Tuesday and finished seventh with a 54-hole score of 870 (290-287-293).

David Schneider Jerez started out in the mix for a top-10 finish, but would end his tournament shooting a four-under 212 (71-68-73) to tie for 16th. After a slow start on the front nine, Matthew Bramford rallied back with five birdies on the back-nine for a third-round 73. After rounds of 72 and 71 Monday, Bramford ends his tournament with an even-par 216 and a tie for 31st. 

Rory Bennet shot the lowest-round total for LU with 72 and carding a three-day 224 (73-79-72) tying for 57th. Fermin Martinez (74-74-78=226) and Nathan Woodham (77-74-75=226) and each tied for 63rd with a 226 while individual competitor Luc Gavagnin (78-80-71) completed his first tournament as a Cardinal shooting 229 and tying for 70. 

Sam Houston (837) claimed the overall team championship with a two-stroke win over Abilene Christian. There was a three-way tie at 204 between Rice's Luka Boandl and Daniel Zou, and LSU's Noah Mcwilliams with the latter winning the individual title in a playoff. 

Big Red will return to the golf course in two weeks as they travel to Little Rock, Ark., for the Everett Buick GMC Classic.
