Big Red Cardinals Hosting Purple Demons Saturday

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas - Opening their conference season on the right note, Lamar University's women's basketball team will look to extend their winning streak to three games as they get set to take on Northwestern State for a Saturday showdown at three o'clock. Once again, the game will be hosted at the Neches Arena.

A PAIR OF TWENTIES
Sabria Dean (29) and Akasha Davis (20) each scored 20 or more points to help LU knock off UIW 70-53 on Thursday night. For Dean, the 29 points are the most points scored for the season, the 12th 20-point game in her career, and only the third highest single game point total in a career. Meanwhile, Davis snatched her 16th career 20-point outing and with 16 rebounds, she recorded her 22nd career double-double game.

WE KNOW THE CARDINALS HAD THE BEST DEFENSE, BUT…
Ironically, LU held UIW, who entered having the conference's best defense, to a surprisingly three points in the final quarter. It was only off of three free-throws that UIW scored in that frame. This is the fewest points LU has allowed all season besting the previous mark of four against Texas College (Nov. 8).

DOUBLE-DIGIT DEFICIT AGAIN? NO PROBLEM
For the third time this season, LU overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to pull off the win. Trailing by 40-29, this was the second largest deficit LU rallied from behind to win this season. Against Louisiana, LU trailed by 13 on multiple occasions before coming back to win.

HISTORY VS. THE DEMONS
Splitting their two meetings last season, the Cardinals are 22-38 against NSU, but have won five of their last six contests. In their last meeting, four Cardinals scored double-figures including Davis, who led everyone with 20 points.

MEET THE DEMONS
NSU opened their conference season with a convincing 78-54 win over McNeese. Five players were in double-figures including Sharna Ayres, who led with 16 points. Averaging barely over 60 points per game, NSU's lone double-digit scorer is Jiselle Woodson, who is 10th in the conference with 12.1 ppg.

UP NEXT FOR LU
LU will make the quick trip across the border to take on McNeese in Lake Charles next Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
