LAFAYETTE, La. – After a rain shortened opening day at the UL Lafayette Sugar Cane Invitational, the Lamar University men's tennis team returned to action Saturday morning. The Cardinals squared off against Nicholls in singles play and tournament-host UL Lafayette in doubles.
The Cardinals finished the day with five wins, including four singles victories. Lamar and ULL played only two doubles matches splitting the two outcomes.
The Cardinals got singles wins from
Max Amling,
Leon Nickel,
Haruki Omori-Cowie and
Stefano Chappuis, while Amling and Nickel recorded the team's lone doubles victory.
Two of the Cardinals singles victories were three-setters as Amling posted a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 to get past the Colonels' Omar Morsy. In similar fashion, Omori-Cowie recorded a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 decision to get past Kotaro Matsamura.
The Cardinals will return to action Sunday for the final day of action in the tournament. It will be Lamar's final tournament before hosting the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8.
