CORPUS CHRISTI – Lamar University newcomer Maxwell Linstedt has gotten his Big Red career off to a great start winning the Purple Flight singles title at the 2025 Jack Frederick Memorial Islander Open.
 
One of two singles victories for the Cardinals Sunday, Lindstedt defeated Lubbock Christian's Marco Seccia in a match that went to a super tiebreak. After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Lindstedt rallied for a 6-3 victory in the second to force the extra frame. Lindstedt didn't let up putting his opponent away with a 10-4 decision in the super tiebreak.
 
Sophomore Louis Drapeau finished out the weekend with a match against UT Rio Grande Valley's Ivo Isqueiro. Drapeau defeated the Vaquero in a super tiebreak, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
 
The Cardinals return to action Friday, Oct. 3, when they will host the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational.
