CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Lamar University had three players competing in their respective flight semifinals Saturday at the John Frederick Memorial Islander Invite in Corpus Christi, with sophomore
Maxwell Lindstedt advancing to Sunday's finals.
Lindstedt went the distance Saturday but only got stronger as the match went on defeating UT Rio Grande Valley's Tsz Him Chan in a super tiebreak. The Vaquero took the opening set, 6-4, but Lindstedt rallied back to take a hard-fought 7-5 decision in the second. In the super tiebreak the LU newcomer jumped out to an early lead and never looked back posting a 10-4 winner to advance to Sunday's flight final over Lubbock Christian's Marco Seccia.
The tournament's final day of competition is set for a 9 a.m. start. Sunday.
