NORMAN, Okla. - Lamar University's men's golf team was recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America as one of 266 schools across all NCAA circuits to receive a GCAA Outstanding Team Academic award. They were one of 54 Division I teams to receive the President's Special Recognition Award for having a 3.5 grade point average or higher. In addition, two of LU's golfers (
Hugo Hellman &
Jacob Lindh) were tabbed as GCAA All-American Scholars.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in any NCAA level, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility at the NJCAA level. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in the Division I circuit.
Hellman averaged 73.61 strokes in 36 rounds of golf. This included 11 rounds of par or better, including career low rounds of 67 at the Little Rock Invitational and the Bayou City Classic. It was also at the Bayou City where he had his best finish of a tie for fourth with 209 strokes, which marked one of three times Hellman appeared in the top 10. He tied for eighth at the Southland Conference Championships and was named on both the Dean's List and President's list at LU.

Lindh posted a 75.82 stroke average in 33 rounds, which included a season low 70 at the Bayou City Collegiate and the Mossy Oak Intercollegiate. He had seven rounds of par or better and finished tied for eighth in the Southland Conference Championships. Lindh would also be named on both the Dean's List and President's list at LU. Â
Collectively, the men carried a 3.58 GPA from this past semester.
