HOUSTON, Texas — On the final day of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon, the Lamar University men's golf team held on to finish fourth with a three-stroke lead over Abilene Christian.
The Cardinals finished with a total score of 874 (289-285-300) to finish eight strokes behind second place Louisiana Lafayette.
This was LU's first top five regular season finish since Feb. 2024.
David Schneider Jerez shot three under (69) for the day after he had a flawless front nine with eight pars and one birdie.
He closed out the back nine with an eagle and one birdie while he also made six consecutive pars on the final stretch.
LU had 11 birdies in the final round, seven of which came on the front nine.
Matthew Bramford,
Fermin Martinez and
Nathan Woodham all tallied a birdie on the first hole.
Bramford and Woodham each finished the day with three birdies.
The Cardinals tallied 41 birdies, four eagles and a tournament-high 173 pars during the competition.
LU tied UT Rio Grande Valley for the most eagles made.
Rice put together a total score of 839 (277-283-279) to win its own tournament with a six-stroke lead over Houston.
Houston's Grant Doggett ended up setting the tournament record for score to par, finishing 15 under par with a 54-hole score of 201.
Doggett also had the tournament's largest margin of victory with a seven-stroke lead over Lukas Boandl from Rice.
