SACRAMENTO, Calif. - As the lone male member of Lamar University's track and field team to qualify for the NCAA DI Track & Field West Regionals, Jacarrius Demmerritte looked to make the most of his first appearance in the regionals in the men's triple jump competition. Of the 46 competitors in the event, the Ft. Worth transfer would finish in 35th place with 14.81m (48'7.25").
In an event that required three jumps with the furthest one being the final tally, Demmerritte opened with a jump of 14.79m (48'6.25"). His second jump would be .10 feet further than the previous, which wound up being his best of the three. The third and final jump was only 14.13m (46'4.25").
For Demmerritte, his first season in Cardinal red was a memorable one as he would earn two first place finishes in the triple jump at the Joe Walker Invitational (14.71m-48'3.25") and set a PR at Trinity's Last Chance Invitational (15.31m-50'2.75"). He medaled in second at the Southland Conference Outdoor T&F Championships leaping 15.86m (52'0.5") to also earn second team honors for this event.
Only one Cardinal has yet to compete in her event and that is Yasmin Austridge. She will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships tomorrow as she will partake in the 3000m steeplechase at 5:40 PM central time.
