WGOLF Central: Cardinals to Travel South For UTRGV Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - Having started their spring semester with two top five finishes in their first two tournaments, Lamar University's women's golf team will look to make it three straight top five finishes and more to open the spring. This coming Monday, the Cardinals will travel south to McAllen for the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley's Invitational.

In their last tournament, the Cardinals managed to go from outside the top five to fourth in the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi with 955 strokes (318-319-318). Montana Di Leo was the top golfer shooting 237 strokes (81-77-79) that got her a tie for 14th. Grace Connelly finished one stroke behind (76-81-81=238) that saw her tied for 17th. With two 80's and an 83, Linnea Jerlebo tied for 32nd along with Madi Smith (81-78-84) as each shot 243 strokes.

Following a tie for 50th position after two rounds, Karolina Krasova rallied back to gain 11 spots after shooting 245 strokes (83-83-79) for a tie for 39th. Alessia Trebbi Tindall competed as an individual, but only got two rounds in shooting 156 strokes (73-83).

Big Red's next tournament sees them in McAllen. LU will seek to finish higher than ninth place a season ago, in which they had 305 and 318 strokes on the first day only to produce 323 strokes on the final 18 holes for a three round total of 946. Jerlebo (T12; 230 strokes), Trebbi Tindall (T28; 236), and Smith (T56; 246) competed in last season's tournament.

This year's UTRGV Invitational will be a 15-team field that will include UTRGV, Bowling Green, Creighton, Drake, Houston Christian, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana State, Northern Iowa, Omaha, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Texas Southern.

The Cardinals will have two rounds of 18 on Monday and then the last 18 will be played on Tuesday.
