BEAUMONT, Texas - Resting up last week, Lamar University's track and field teams get set to return to the Yeomen Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston for their fourth and final indoor regular season meet before the Southland Conference championships. This meet will be the Howie Ryan Invitational.
Two weeks ago, the Cardinals split up and went to both Houston for the Houston Invitational and Lake Charles, La., for the McNeese State Invitational. In Houston Yasmin Austridge had a stellar meet anchoring the distance meter relay team of herself, Nia Clatworthy, Jillian Howard, and Faith Outing to a record-setting first place finish of 11:35.48 seconds, breaking the previous mark by 35 seconds. She also finished second in the 800m at 2:10.23 seconds.
Howard later followed with a third place finish in the mile with a time of 5:04.08 while Clatworthy also ran third in the 3000m clocking in at 9:58.81. Miles Jones medaled in his third straight meet as he finished third place in the high jump. His distance of 2.06 meters (6'9.00") was a new PR by .01m.
LU won two events in Lake Charles as Kenson Tate leapt his way to first place with a distance of 7.11m (23'4") while Jaccarius Demmerrite made the most of his Cardinal debut earning first in the men's triple jump (14.18m-46' 6.25"). Kayli Johnson (5.63m - 18' 5.75") and Klinta Blusina (5.45m - 17' 10.5") took second and third place respectively in the triple jump while Arajanee Jackson (11.71m-38'5"), Kristin Riley (11.42m-37'5.5"), and Diamond Milton (11.04m-36'2.75") scored second, third, and fourth respectively in the women's triple jump.
The Cardinals look to duplicate success like they had in last year's Howie Ryan Invitational. There were three first place finishes in the meet and two of the members were Tate and Eli Peveto. Tate earned the first of four first place finishes in the long jump leaping 7.23m (23'8.75"). Eli Peveto claimed first place in the 3000m with 8:24.40 seconds.
