BEAUMONT, Texas - Ready to return to action on the golf course, Lamar University's women's golf team will get set to open their spring season for 2023. LU's first tournament will take place at the Texas State Invitational located at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas.

It's been three months since LU made their last tournament appearance at the Mercer Invitational in which they finished 15th with 952 strokes (318-322-312). Alessia Trebbi Tindall finished as the top Cardinal golfer with 229 strokes, which composed of two 77's and a 75 to be tied for 36th. Grace Connelly (82-85-72) tied for 69th with 239 strokes while Karolina Krasova took two 82's and a 78 to be 77th with 242 strokes. Linnea Jerlebo (80-82-81) finished 78th with 243 strokes while Madi Smith (81-85-83) ended up tied for 85th with 249 strokes. Montana Di Leo tied for 83rd with 248 strokes (85-81-82) while competing as an individual.

Much like last year, the Texas State Invitational will mark the first spring tournament of the season. Last year, LU placed 11th overall with 648 strokes. Three current Cardinals took part in the tournament last season as Jerelbo (38th; 78-80-77=235) and Trebbi Tindall (39th; 80-81-75) each placed in the top 40 while Smith (59th; 84-84-78=246) finished in the top 60.

LU will be one of eight teams competing in this tournament along with host school Texas State, Cincinnati, IUPUI, Lamar, Southern Illinois, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and UTRGV. The tournament will be 54 holes with 36 played on Monday and the final 18 being played on Tuesday.
