BEAUMONT, Texas - With a spot in the Southland Conference tournament clinched and riding a six-game winning streak, Lamar University's women's basketball team will get set to have their final two home games of the regular season in the Montagne Center. For a chance to improve their placement, Thursday night's penultimate home contest pits Big Red against the conference's first place team in Southeastern Louisiana. The tip-off begins at 5:00 p.m.
PORTIA HAS BEEN CHANGED TO PLAYER OF THE WEEK ADAMS
In her last two games, Adams averaged 21 points per game, which included a career-high of 32 in the first meeting against Houston Christian. Adams was named as the SLC Jersey Mike's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, marking the second straight week and third time this season a Cardinal won the award.
Akasha Davis was the other player who won the award this season and she won it twice.

With the win against HCU, LU has punched their ticket to the Southland Conference tournament. As of now, LU is third in the conference standings trailing SELA by two games and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by one game.

Thursday's game will be a battle of two red hot teams that have won their last six straight games. The Lions have won nine of their last 10 while the Cardinals have won eight of their last nine.
HISTORY AGAINST THE LIONS
In their last meeting against SE Louisiana, the Cardinals handed the Lions their only home loss of the season 57-47.
Akasha Davis and
Malay McQueen finished with 14 points apiece between them. That win meant LU is 24-21 against the Lions all-time. It's also been 11 years since LU last lost at home.

Like the Cardinals, the Lions have also clinched their spot in the conference tournament after defeating Texas A&M-Commerce 66-55. Although they sit fourth in offense (62.7) trailing LU by 1.3 ppg, they currently remain as the top defensive team giving up 54.4 ppg. Â
