CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Lamar University's women's golf team began their second tournament of the spring semester with a trip to the Islander Classic. LU finished the first two round shooting 637 strokes (318-319) to be sitting in sixth place.
Grace Connelly leads all Cardinal golfers as she sits tied for 12th with 157 strokes following rounds of 76 and 81.
Montana Di Leo (81-77) trails by one stroke and three spots after 36 holes.
Madi Smith is tied for 22nd with 159 strokes (81-78) while
Linnea Jerlebo (80-83=163) is 16 spots behind Smith. Tied for 50th is
Karolina Krasova, who shot a pair of 83's for 166 strokes. Although she is competing as an individual, Alessia Trebbi-Tindall managed a first round 73 and will look to resume her tournament tomorrow.
"Today was tough," admits head coach
Janell O'Connor. "The course is playing hard and fast and it was extremely windy today. We made some adjustments but just not enough to move ourselves up after the first round. We have a good game plan for tomorrow so we'll go out and give it our best and see what happens."
UTRGV currently holds a four stroke lead over Houston Christian for first place while Elise Parel (HCU) claims a one stroke advantage over Katherine Lemke (Creighton). The final round will commence tomorrow.
