Cards Eyeing Early Morning Matchup with Texas A&M

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas - Following a week with no competition, Lamar University's women's basketball squad will get back to competing on Wednesday morning as they will meet up with Texas A&M at College Station. With an 11:00 a.m. tipoff, the Cardinals will be playing at Reed Arena in front of a massive group of elementary school kids as part of TAMU's Elementary School Day.

While in Florida
The Cardinals partook in the St. Pete's Showcase in St. Petersburg, Fla., hosted by Eckerd College. In their first game of the tournament, LU used a 28-0 run to overcome an 11-3 deficit and turn that into a 56-44 victory. Sabria Dean (14 points), Jacei Denley (12 points), and Akasha Davis (11 points) combined for 39 points as they all scored in double-figures. The Cardinals then jumped out to an 25-14 lead on Nebraska, but allowed the Cornhuskers to comeback and take the lead. Though LU would close the gap to 63-57, they were unable to stop a late rally and fell 75-61. Dean posted 19 points while Davis and T'Aliyah Miner each poured in 11.

For Pete's Sake, We're Showcasing St. Sabria Dean
For her performance in the St. Pete's Showcase, Sabria Dean was named to the St. Pete Showcase's All-Tournament Team. She averaged 16.5 points, converted 54.2% from the field, and made all six of her free throws. Dean remains LU's leader in points averaging 15.5 per game. She also earned Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Guess Who's Back? Back Again
Head coach Aqua Franklin makes her return trip to her alma mater after spending four years playing for hall of fame head coach Gary Blair. In her career, Franklin finished in the top three in assists (627) while earning AP All-American honorable mention honors along with second team All-Big 12 and led the Aggies to three NCAA tournament appearances including an Elite Eight run.

History vs. the Aggies
This will be the 27th meeting all-time against the Aggies. LU is 9-17 all-time with their last win being in the 2018-19 season in which the Cardinals upset then No. 17 TAMU 74-68 in College Station.

Meet the Aggies
On a five-game winning streak, the Aggies are 7-1 after defeating the Jayhawks of Kansas 63-52. Averaging 72.3 ppg, four Aggies are averaging double-figures with Janiah Barker leading with 13.5 ppg while grabbing a team-high 9.1 rebounds per game. The Georgia freshman recently collected her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds against KU. Endiya Rogers, who came in from Oregon, has put together four straight 10+ point games to be at 11.4 ppg. She's coming off a season-high of 17 against KU.
