BEAUMONT, Texas - While most everyone else will be preparing turkey dinners, watching the Macy's Day parade, and doing other traditional Thanksgiving events, Lamar University's women's basketball team will be flying out to St. Petersburg, Fla., to partake in the St. Pete's Showcase. The Cardinals will be playing two games this week against two undefeated squads in Texas-El Paso (Nov. 22; 12:00 PM CT) and Nebraska (Nov. 23; 2:30 PM CT).

Lamar returned to the winners' column with a 72-48 victory over LSU-Alexandria. Akasha Davis was the leading scorer with 15 for the night. At 3-1, this marks the first time since the 2018-19 season in which LU won three of their first four games. That season, they finished 24-7 overall.
Ms. 1000
Sabria Dean scored 12 points in the win over LSU-Alexandria, which meant that she eclipsed the 1,000-point mark. Throughout her career to date, Dean averaged 11.4 points per game in 88 games played with 81 starts. The former Southland Conference Freshman of the Year remains LU's leader in points per game.

Down 8-4 early against the Generals, Taliah Hill and T'Aliyah Miner helped sparked LU's 11-point run with eight points that gave the Cardinals a lead they would not relinquish. Hill finished with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting while Miner ended up with five points.
About the St. Pete's Showcase
The Cardinals are one of four teams to partake in this year's showcase along with UTEP, Nebraska, and TCU. The games will be hosted at Eckerd College at the McArthur Center from Nov. 22nd-25th.
History vs. the Miners
LU is 3-3 all-time against UTEP. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2011-12 season.
Meet the Miners
The Miners experienced their first loss of the season to California Baptist 90-87 in overtime. Jane Asinde leads UTEP with 24.6 points per game following 24 points in the loss to CBU. while also averaging 13.0 rebounds to average a double-double.
History vs. the Cornhuskers
This will be the second meeting all-time between the two teams. The Cardinals and Cornhuskers met each other one time back on Dec. 5, 1986. Nebraska won 62-49.
Meet the Cornhuskers
Coming off their first loss of the season to Creighton, Nebraska is 3-1 on the year. Averaging 78.5 ppg, the Cornhuskers have five players averaging double-figures led by Alexis Markowski, who has 18.5 per game.

LU will be off next week, but will travel to College Station the following Wednesday (Dec. 6th) for an 11:00 a.m matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies.
