SPARTANBURG, S.C - Playing in their final round of the fall season, Lamar University's women's golf team shot up three spots from ninth to sixth in Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford University. Shooting a three-round total of 921 (319-302-300), the Cardinals came within two strokes of Tennessee Tech to reach the top five.
Keyed by five birdies on the day, Alessia Trebbi Tindall moved up seven spots to a tie for eighth with 223 (75-76-72) finishing as LU's top golfer. Linnea Jerlebo (80-71-78=229) took a tie for 18th while Karolina Krasova (80-79-75=234) ended her fall semester tied for 34th.
Grace Connelly shot a 75 after rounds of 84 and 81 yesterday, which has her final total at 240 to be tied for 49th. Lucy Bedford ended her tournament with a 68th place finish at 254 (86-76-92=254).
For head coach Janell O'Connor, this finish was a strong way to complete the fall season and get prepared for the spring season. "It was a good ending to the fall season," she admits. "We got better every round and learned from what we did previous. To be only one shot off the round of the day for all teams was exciting as well. We are excited for a little rest. We have some fun things planned for the off season before the holidays and we are excited to have a good finish for the semester! This team makes me so proud and I can't wait to see what the spring season holds."
Elon University claimed the overall team championship with a three-stroke margin over Samford. Western Carolina's Brielle Mapanao shot a four-under 212 to claim the individual championship.
The Cardinals will begin their spring season on February 5th when they travel to Kyle for the Texas State Invitational.
