NEW ORLEANS, La - A rough first quarter, cold shooting and a stifling New Orleans Privateer defense prevented Lamar University's women's basketball team from extending their winning streak to four games. Dropping the game 60-46, LU now is 1-1 in conference play to go along with their 7-6 record.

Akasha Davis and Sabria Dean led LU with 14 points each with Davis going six-of-seven from the field. Portia Adams was one point shy of double-figures, but led with five rebounds and four assists. In all, the Cardinals shot 30.8% from the field.

The Cardinals came out of the gates flat as the Privateers jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Big Red could get on the board. It took a 14-2 run for UNO to reach a 19-3 lead. The Cardinals only made two field goals as they found themselves down 21-5 after the first quarter.

An early second quarter UNO basket made the score 23-5. While Big Red managed five straight points, they couldn't stop the hot shooting of the Privateers, who made 53.8% from the field and rushed out to a 36-15 halftime lead. LU struggled to figure out the UNO defense, who held them to three field goals.

Big Red would trim the score to 40-21 to get the third quarter started, but the Privateers went on another 7-2 run to lead 47-23. LU was held to 36.4% shooting while they held UNO to 45.5% shooting. Adams and Dean combined for nine points in the quarter as they trailed 49-28 after three quarters.

LU did outscore (18-11) and outshoot (46.7%-33.3%) the Privateers in the fourth quarter. Davis would put together nine fourth quarter points. Yet, the Cardinals struggled to get to within 13 points as UNO's lead was too much to overcome.

The Cards will look to bounce back this Saturday against Southeastern with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
