BEAUMONT, Texas - Making the most of their inaugural season in the Western Athletic Conference, Lamar University's women's basketball team will be appearing in their first WAC Tournament, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nev. The first-round game will be in the Michelob Ultra Arena on Tuesday and will tip-off at 4:30 PM central time.
The Cardinals enter the tournament with a 13-14 record overall and 8-10 in conference play putting them as the seventh seed. They will start their tournament run against 10th seeded New Mexico State. The winner of this game will advance to Wednesday's second round matchup against Sam Houston.
This season, LU has been led by WAC Freshman of the Year Akasha Davis, who averaged 12.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while finishing second in the conference with a 56.5 field goal percentage. Recording six double-doubles, including a season high 27-points and 13 rebounds against Howard Payne, Davis also collected five WAC Freshmen of the Week honors.

- The Cardinals dropped a 101-76 meeting with California Baptist to end the regular season at 13-14 overall and 8-10 in conference play at the CBU Events Center. This put them as the seventh seed in the WAC Tournament.
- LU was unable to match CBU's 62.7% shooting performance while the Cardinals made 37.1% from the field. LU overcame an early 18-4 deficit to cut the lead to 20-16. But from that point on, the Lancers would take back momentum all the way to the end.
- Emma Imevbore (17 points) and Portia Adams (12 points) recorded their season highs in the game while Davis tallied 10 points.
SERIES HISTORY
- LU is 1-7 all-time against New Mexico State with their only win coming on December 4, 1982 in which they won 89-79.
- The Cardinals dropped a 57-53 decision on January 10, 2022 to the Aggies. Anyssia Gibbs led the Cardinals with 11 points on four-of-seven shooting while blocking one shot and grabbing nine rebounds. Davis scored 10 points and blocked two shots.
