Women's Golf Adds Bedford to Squad

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - With the spring semester already in progress, Lamar University's women's golf team recently made another addition to their roster. Already making an impact on the team is Lucy Bedford.

"We're happy to have Lucy join our family," said head coach Janelle Howland. "She's been here a few short weeks and already making an impact. Her attitude and work ethic are going to help continue to move this program forward.  Excited for her to tee it up this week for the first time for us."

Originally born in the United Kingdom, Bedford arrives to Beaumont from Brisbane, Australia and has put up a tremendous golfing career to date. She represented Kelvin Grove State College from 2018-2020 in the Queensland Intercollegiate Tournament where she helped them to a first place finish in 2020 as team captain. Earning two players of the year from KGSC, Bedford was also a member of the Metropolitan North Team at the Queensland Schools' State Championship leading them to a second place finish.

She also took part in the Royal Queensland Girls' Club Championships earning runner up in the tournament. Then, she represented the club in the Brisbane Ladies District Gold Pennants event in 2021 helping her team finishing second. In addition, as a member of the UK, she competed in the 2018 World Junior Championships in San Diego, Calif.

Expecting to major in Exercise Science at LU, Bedford was given the Dalgleish Athlete Integrity Award by KGSU and the With All Thy Might Award for Exceptional Effort in 2019. She is the daughter of Kate Bedford and Glenn Bedford, who is a current professional golfer on the PGA European Tour.

Bedford and the Cardinals will resume their season next week as they travel down south to McAllen to partake in the South Texas Showdown hosted by UT Rio Grande Valley. The tournament will start on Monday.
