BEAUMONT, Texas - Seeking to bounce back after a tough loss on Saturday, Lamar University's women's basketball team will host NAIA powerhouse Loyola-New Orleans this Tuesday night at the Montagne Center. The tip-off will start at 7:00 p.m.
Miss 20 Points
In spite of the 60-56 loss to UT-Arlington on Saturday, Sabria Dean recorded her third 20+-point contest of the season. With 20 points, this was the eighth career 20+ point game all-time for the native of Mineola, Texas. Through six games this season, she is leading the Cardinals with 16 points per game along with 15 total assists.Â
Royal Queens on the Boards
Emma Imevbore and Malay McQueen currently are tied for first on the team with 7.7 rpg, which equates to 46 rebounds. Each of them are tied for third in the Southland Conference behind Alecia Westbrook (AMCC; 9.3) and Lexi Alexander (NICH; 8.5). While McQueen is second on the team with 16 assists, Imevbore is the team leader in blocks with seven.Â
Porting on Assists
While she only had two assists in the last game vs. UTA, Portia Adams has a slight lead in the conference with 4.0 assists per game (a total of 24 assists), despite playing in fewer games. Adams has already passed her season high of 17 assists from the previous season.Â
Class of 34
The Cardinals are 34-1 all-time against NAIA schools. Six of their wins came against Dillard University (LA) while Louisiana Christian University and LSU-Shreveport have each fallen to Lamar five times.
A Sequel to Groundhog Day?
A year and two days ago, LU took on the Wolf Pack and claimed a 57-44 victory. Dean led all Cardinals with 25 points and seven rebounds. Big Red is 2-0 all-time against LNO.
Scouting the Wolf Pack
LNO is off to a 9-0 start to their season. This has put them among the nation's top teams as they're are currently ranked tenth nationally on the NAIA circuit. Winners of five of the last six Southern States Athletic Conference championships, the Wolf Pack currently average 85.3 ppg while conceding 56.1 ppg. Four players (Sandra Cannady (17.4 ppg), Taylor Thomas (12.7 ppg), Kennedy Hansberry (10.6 ppg), and Jazmene McMillan (10.4 ppg)) are averaging double-figures. This game will count as an exhibition for them.Â
