BEAUMONT, Texas - As the 2022 year comes to a close, Lamar University's women's basketball team is set to open Southland Conference play with a Battle of the Border Showdown against the Cowgirls of McNeese. Tip-off will start at 1:00 p.m. this Saturday at the Montagne Center.

Kashing In
In their last win against Texas A&M-Texarkana. Akasha Davis recorded her seventh career double-double by scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The 25 points is a season-high for Davis and is two points shy of her career-high, which she achieved against Howard Payne last year. Non-Conference Recap
LU finished non-conference play with a record of 6-5. After dropping their opener to Baylor, LU won three straight games against Jarvis Christian, Prairie View A&M, and Mississippi Valley State. The Cardinals then fell in four of their next five games before picking up wins against Loyola-New Orleans and AMU-Texarkana. The six non-conference wins are the most in the Aqua Franklin era after winning four nonconference games in the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons.

Southland, We're HOOOME!
The Cardinals are back in the Southland Conference after spending their last year in the Western Athletic Conference. This will mark their first Southland game since March 6th, 2021 when they defeated McNeese 68-60. That game saw Bebe Galloway score 12 points to lead LU. In their last season in the SLC, the Cardinals went 9-6 in the conference to qualify for the conference tournament.

History Against the Cowgirls
In 81 meetings all-time against the Cowgirls, LU is 38-43 all-time, but are currently on a 10-game winning streak. The last time LU lost to McNeese was on March 11, 2016.
