MGOLF CENTRAL: Little Rock Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - Getting ready to close out their fall season, Lamar University's men's golf team will travel to Little Rock, Ark., to partake in their final tournament in the year 2022. LU will compete in the Little Rock Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

Big Red's last tournament was at the Graeme McDowell Invitational in Gadsden, Ala. In the end, the Cardinals finished with a three round total of 928 strokes (309-304-315), which placed them 10th overall. Carl Hardin was in the hunt to win the individual championship, but settled for third place with 220 strokes (75-72-73) trailing the leaders by two strokes.

Hugo Hellman (73-78-80) tied for 33rd with 221 strokes while Pedro Marin posted 239 strokes with rounds of 83, 74, and 82 to finished tied for 45th. Jacob Lindh (T63rd; 78-84-80=242) and Guillermo Estivill (72nd; 93-80-82=255) ended up nine spots and 13 strokes different from each other. Marking his first tournament as a member of LU, David Schneider Jerez, who competed as an individual, tied for 38th with 234 strokes (80-71-83).

This will be the fifth straight year LU will attend the Little Rock Invitational dating back to the 2018-19 season. The Cardinals have also made their trademark on winning the championship in this tournament having done so three times in 2006, 2007,(Justin Harding won the individual championship), and 2009. In 2007, Justin Harding won the individual championship shooting a score of 206, which is tied for third all-time in the lowest winning score posted.

Last season, LU placed 2nd with 863 strokes (287-286-290). Hellman (T6th; 69-72-73) and Estivill (T10; 74-72-70=216) placed in the top 10 while Marin (74-68-77) and Hardin (75-74-70) each tied for 23rd with 219 strokes.

LU will be among 16 teams for this year's tournament as they will compete along with LR, Abilene Christian, Boston College, Central Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Kansas City, Michigan, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Southern Miss, Troy, ULM, UT Arlington, UTEP, and VCU. As usual, Monday will have two rounds for 36 holes played while Tuesday will have a round of 18.
