WACO, Texas – After opening the ITA Regional Championships with singles Thursday, doubles took center stage Friday and Lamar University ended the day with a couple of strong performances. The Cardinals sent the team of
Max Milic and
Elias Peter and
Max Amling and
Filippo Salsini to the courts.
The duo of Milic and Peter hit the court first facing Arnau Miralles Lopez and Noah DeLuna from conference foe UIW. The Cardinals took an early lead and posted an 8-5 victory. LU's duo advanced to face Rice's Dylan Heap and Yasha Zemel but fell by the score of 8-5 in the second round.
It was a similar story for Amling and Salsini who ousted UT Arlington's Ricardo Alban and Daichi Akiyoshi, 8-4. The LU duo squared off against Texas Tech's Demetris Azoides and Olle Wallin in the second round. The Cardinals were pushed to a tiebreak before the match was decided the Cardinals were edged out in the end, 8-7 (9-7).
The third round of action at the ITA Regionals will begin Saturday morning with the third round of singles.
