Women's Golf wins Fourth Straight SLC Title
Â
The 2015-16 Lamar University Women's Golf program won their fourth consecutive Southland Conference Tournament title, becoming the first program in Southland Conference history to do so. The 2015-16 title became the seventh overall title for the Cardinals with former Cardinal Wenny Chang winning the 2016 Individual title to give Lamar their conference leading fourth individual champion.
Â
The Cardinals led from wire-to-wire as they finished eight strokes ahead of runner-up Central Arkansas. Lamar posted a final round of 307 to finish with an 898. Chang fired an even-par 72 in the final round on the 6,251-yard layout on the Hills Course of the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club to finish at 2-under-par 214, seven strokes ahead of Central Arkansas' Fernanda Lira.
Â
It was the first conference medalist honor for Chang, the former junior, who lost in a playoff in the 2015 SLC Tournament. Chang is the fourth LU women's golfer to earn medalist honors and was the first since Stine Pedersen in 2011.
Â
Former senior Taylor Stockton became the first women's golfer to be a member of four Southland Championship squads (2013-16). Stockton finished third overall at 7-over 223 after a final round of 80.
Â
